MoDOT Promotes Work Zone Safety

The new Better Roads, Brighter Future initiative means that there are several projects scheduled on the remainder of the state’s 5,600 miles of major roadways over the next five years. That can mean only one thing – 2007 will be another big year for construction.

Because of the large number of work zones on Missouri roadways, MoDOT is doing a lot to promote work zone safety to the public to reduce work zone fatalities and injuries. Whether in the form of public service announcements, billboards, changeable message boards, maps, Web sites or signs, the message is loud and clear. Watch out for us!

Current work zone promotions include:

  • A television spot featuring MoDOT Motorist Assist Worker Ken Hoierman, who was tragically killed in a work zone in August 2006, that will run March through September to remind motorists to Watch Out for Us.
  • Radio spots that will run March through September to remind travelers to Drive Smart and Arrive Alive.
  • Billboards to remind motorists about getting construction project information from the Web site.
  • Changeable message boards to alert travelers of upcoming detours or delays.
  • The updated work zone Web site at www.modot.org.
  • Statewide construction map that identifies where and when major construction projects will take place.
  • Online work zone locator map that allows travelers to see MoDOT’s active work zones before they even get in their cars.
  • New work zone sign promoting the new work zone laws effective August 2006

For more information about any of these promotions or work zone safety, visit www.modot.org.
