Readme Documentation

This readme file will give you some additional information and guide you through some of the aspects of using MoDOT's on-line Standard Plans Book.

Drawing Formats:

Each drawing is presented in two formats: an inactive image that can be easily viewed or printed by use of the Acrobat Reader, and a downloadable Microstation drawing. In most cases, each drawing has a Metric image, an English Image, and a dual unit Microstation file. Unavailability of an English image is due to the existence of obsolete hand-drawn English plans that will not be converted to electronic files. In a few cases, the Microstation drawing will be unavailable due to the drawing being a Lotus 1-2-3 file.

Multiple Page Files:

The images of multiple page drawings will take the form of subsequent pages of a single Acrobat file. The downloadable version of a multiple page standard plan will be presented in one of two ways. Recently revised multiple page drawings will consist of individual files and download buttons for each sheet of the drawing. Until a multiple page drawing is revised, it will be presented as a single Microstation file showing all pages of the drawing with plotting points for each in the upper left and lower right corners. These formats result from drawings being placed in "real world" units as they are revised.

Dual Unit Drawings:

As previously mentioned, the Microstation files are in dual (Metric and English) units. M icrostation software must be used to open and manipulate the .dgn files. If Microstation is not available, it is recom m ended that the Acrobat files be used instead.   English units reside on level 45 of each drawing, while the Metric units are on level 46. Additional information or geometry may also reside on various levels.  It is recommended that the user activate all levels and then deactivate levels as needed.   When all levels are activated, the drawing will display all geometry and both sets of units simultaneously. The appropriate levels must be deactivated in order for the desired units to appear legibly.
