Keep Right! Trucks Banned from Far Left Lane on Six-Mile Stretch of I-70
A law that goes into effect Jan. 1, 2008 states that all trucks with a registered gross weight of more than 24,000 pounds, shall not be driven in the far left lane of the interstate for three miles (in either direction) from the intersection of an interstate and a three-digit numbered Missouri highway.
At this time, the law pertains only to the intersection of Interstate 70 and Missouri Route 370. So, in the area between mile markers 221 and 227, trucks with a gross weight of 24,001 pounds or more cannot use the far left lane of the interstate, unless:
(1) It is reasonably necessary for the operation of the truck to respond to emergency conditions; or
(2) The right or a center lane of a roadway is closed to traffic while under construction, maintenance, or repair.
The provision passed in SB 22 during the 2007 session and is noted in the State Statues in Chapter 304.222. A violation of this law is an infraction unless the violation causes an immediate threat of an accident, in which case it is deemed a class C misdemeanor. If an accident results from a violation, it is classified as a class A misdemeanor.

Recommendation: Apportioned License Plates
The Missouri Motor Carriers Association and several Missouri State Department directors are working to resolve problems law enforcement officers have in accessing apportioned license plate registration information. In the meantime, if a law enforcement officer has difficulty locating your apportioned license plate information, the Missouri State Highway Patrol recommends that you ask the officer to run a Manual License Lookup (nationwide law enforcement slang) using code MOLIC0000.
OD/OW: Proof of Insurance Required
Proof of insurance must be on file before an OD/OW permit can be issued. Certificates of insurance (Accord) or a Form E can be faxed to (573) 751-7408.
Routine permits require $750,000 and superloads require $2,000,000 combined single limit automobile liability coverage.
