Federal SafeStat is a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Office of Motor Carrier (OMC) program which evaluates interstate motor carrier operations. Federal SafeStat makes the maximum use of available motor carrier performance and compliance data to assess a motor carrier in four broad Safety Evaluation Areas (SEAs): accident SEA, driver SEA, vehicle SEA, and the safety management SEA. The Federal SafeStat system categorizes motor carriers in the top seventy-fifth percentile of worst performers.
Upon the completion of a Compliance Review, a carrier is issued a safety rating by the FHWA/OMC. The rating will be satisfactory, conditional, or unsatisfactory. The Compliance Review process allows the FHWA/OMC to identify safety issues and take appropriate action.
Motor carriers can request their Federal SafeStat score by writing to the Office of Motor Carriers, Planning and Customer Liaison - HPS 20, Attention: FOIA Team, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washingtion, D.C 20509
