Schedule Revised:
Two Weeks of One-Lane
Route 5: Ava-to-Gainesville
MoDOT, District 8, Springfield --
Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and delays for two weeks beginning
Monday, August 15, on Route 5 between Douglas County Route A south
of Ava and Route 160 in Gainesville.
Missouri Department of Transportation
crews are scheduled to seal the pavement. The operation was orginally
scheduled to begin on Monday, August 8, but has been delayed by
one week.
Crews will begin the "chip-seal"
project at Douglas County Route A, working south toward Gainesville.
A section of one lane will be closed,
then crews will switch to the other lane to even out the work.
Then the operation will be moved to the next section.
The goal is to seal four to five miles
of the highway a day.
Here's the work plan:
* Lane closings can be expected between
6:30 or 7 a.m. and 6 or 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
* Expect to slow down and stop for
a few minutes approaching the project. Leave extra travel time
if using Route 5.
* Flaggers will direct traffic. A
"pilot" pickup truck will lead vehicles through the
work zones.
* The Route 5 speed limit will be
reduced to 45 mph where the work is being done. The lower speed
limit will remain in force for several days after the work is
completed.
The pavement will be sealed with asphalt
and rock.
Rain or equipment problems could delay
the completion of the project.
Electronic message boards and orange
signs will alert drivers to the operation.
