Amtrak
Offers Special Package to Missouri State Fair
Package
includes shuttle bus transfers and admission to the fair
JEFFERSON CITY - State
Fair time is coming, and Amtrak has made it easier than ever to
take the train to the 2005 Missouri State Fair. With a special
State Fair package, rail travel, shuttle bus transfers and fair
admission are all included in one ticket price. One of the largest
ten-day fairs in the nation, the Missouri State Fair will be held
Aug. 11 through Aug. 21 in Sedalia.
The Missouri State Fair
package includes roundtrip travel on Amtrak Ann Rutledge
or Missouri Mules services (St. Louis - Kansas
City) with shuttle bus transfers to the state fairgrounds as well
as admission to the State Fair. Travelers can board Amtrak trains
in Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Independence, Warrensburg, Jefferson
City, Hermann, Washington, Kirkwood or St. Louis.
"Amtrak's State Fair package
is a convenient way to get to this year's fair and save some money
as well," said Rod Massman, railroads administrator for the Missouri
Department of Transportation. "We're happy to be working with
Amtrak to provide this special offer."
The cost of the State Fair
package includes rail travel plus an additional fee for the shuttle
bus and fair admission. The additional fee is $10 for adults,
$8.50 for senior citizens and $5 for children ages two to 15.
For rail travel, the lowest available fare will be offered plus
any allowable discounts including everyday Amtrak discounts for
seniors, students and children.
Sample adult fares, including
the fee for the shuttle and the fair admission, are: $54 round-trip
from St. Louis and Kirkwood, $38 round-trip from Kansas City,
$36 round-trip from Independence and Lee's Summit and $32 from
Jefferson City.
"We're pleased to offer
our special Missouri State Fair package again this year," said
Anne McGinnis, Amtrak sales and marketing associate for Missouri.
"State Fair visitors don't have to hassle with the driving to
Sedalia. They can board a train and let Amtrak do the driving."
Reservations are required
and may be made by calling 800-USA-RAIL and asking for the Missouri
State Fair Package. Travelers requiring wheelchair or other
special assistance should notify Amtrak when reservations are
made or at least 24 hours prior to departure. Shuttle bus schedules
for the return trip to the Sedalia train station will be posted
at the state fairgrounds and adjusted according to actual train
arrival times.
The Kansas City - St. Louis
service is operated by Amtrak under a contract with the Missouri
Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and with the support of the
Missouri Rail Passenger Advisory Committee, a grass-roots group
representing the communities along the 283-mile corridor.
Amtrak provides intercity
passenger rail services to more than 500 destinations in 46 states
on a 22,000-mile route system. For schedules, fares and information,
passengers may call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com
