Major
Project Selection Continues April 13;
$1.3
Billion in Amendment 3 Bond Financing Included
JEFFERSON CITY - Local officials from all over the state will
convene a second time in Jefferson City April 13 to help the Missouri
Department of Transportation determine a list of new highway projects
to be funded by major project revenues, including $1.3 billion
in Amendment 3 bond financing.
Using
MoDOT's improved public-driven project selection process, the
group will develop high-priority projects to be built in the next
five years.
The
meeting will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 at the Capitol
Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.
"We
started this process with more than $8 billion in project needs,"
said MoDOT Director Pete Rahn. "After this meeting we'll
have a smaller list, agreed to by leaders throughout the state.
I'm very excited to see what the process will show us,
and how we can work together with our partners throughout the
state to make big improvements in Missouri's transportation system."
MoDOT
has already announced nearly $800 million in new or accelerated
projects financed by Amendment 3 under its Smoother, Safer, Sooner
program. The remaining major projects revenue is designated
for major new construction projects not currently listed in the
department's five-year construction program.
"The
public voted for Amendment 3 and trusted us to spend the money
wisely," Rahn said. "Through these public meetings, I want
everyone to see we're making these choices with the full involvement
of citizens throughout Missouri."
Projects
will be considered in MoDOT staff recommendations to the Missouri
Highways and Transportation Commission in May. Ultimately,
the projects selected will be added to MoDOT's five-year construction
program.
