Speed Limit Being Increased
May 26 On Route 360/60 and
Route MM West of Springfield
MoDOT, District 8, Springfield --
The speed limit will be increased on two state highways west of
Springfield on Thursday, May 26, the Missouri Department of Transportation
said.
The signs will be changed during morning
hours on each road.
The speed limit will be raised to:
* 70 mph (from 60 mph) on U.S. 60/Route
360 between the Scenic Avenue overpass west of Kansas Expressway
on the east and I-44 on the west. This section of four-lane, divided
freeway is 8-1/2 miles long and connects south Springfield with
I-44 to the west of the city.
* 55 mph (from 45 mph) on Greene County
Route MM through Brookline between I-44 on the north and U.S.
60/413 east of Republic on the south. Two-lane Route MM is four
miles long. The Brookline area soon will become part of the City
of Republic.
A speed study done by
MoDOT traffic engineers on each highway shows the higher speed
limit is appropriate for the traffic and the way people are driving.
Each road has a relatively low crash rate.
