April 2008 - Coming improvements to Route 61
Route 61 to be resurfaced in Lewis County
HANNIBAL – Work will begin this summer to resurface approximately 13 miles of southbound Route 61 in Lewis County. Crews will resurface southbound Route 61 from south of the Clark County line to just south of Route C near LaGrange. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded the project to Chester Bross Construction Co., Inc. of Hannibal, Mo., for $2,698,185.89.
Traffic will be handled on the existing pavement during the resurfacing operations, but will be restricted to one lane. Details about the project will be released to local media prior to construction beginning. The public is urged to use caution during construction. Work is expected to begin after April and be completed by October 2008.
Additional resurfacing projects have been scheduled for 2009 for the north and southbound lanes of Route 61 south to Taylor and for the southbound lanes in Clark and Lewis Counties. “This work will complete the resurfacing of Route 61 from the Iowa line to New London,” stated Transportation Project Manager Rick Domzalski.
