January 19, 2005 Bridge Repairs
and Culvert Replacements in Pike County on Wednesday
MoDOT
crews will repair the bridge deck on Sandy Creek
Bridge just north of Middletown on Route AC. While
crews are working the roadway will be closed from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. On Route M, crews will repair the bridge
deck on South Indian Creek Bridge just north of Route Y.
While crews are working the roadway will be closed from
8:30 a.m. to noon. Also, crews will be replacing a
culvert on Route K approximately a 1/2 mile west of Route

14, 2005 The Avenue will be complete in 2008!
The Avenue of the Saints in Missouri, Route 61, will be
four lanes sooner than expected. This good news is the direct
result of the infusion of cash provided to MoDOT by the
passage of Amendment 3 in November. The four-laning of Route
61 in Clark and Lewis Counties should be finished by the
end of 2008. “This is two years ahead of schedule
for Clark County,” said MoDOT District Engineer Kirk
Juranas. The Lewis County portion was moved up a full year
with expected completion at the end of 2007.
“We’ve told voters that passage of Amendment
3 means ‘smoother, safer, sooner,” Juranas said.
“Getting work done sooner on this highway goes a long
way toward a smoother, safer ride in Northeast Missouri.”
Amendment 3 money will accelerate
other projects on Route 61 worth more than $8 million including
resurfacing Route 61 from just north of Troy to the St.
Charles County line and about a four-mile section between
Hannibal and New London.
These projects are just a
few of more than 200 projects statewide that were announced
today that will benefit from Amendment 3 money.

8, 2005 - Wireless signals will improve traffic flow on
Route 47 Drivers traveling
along Route 47 through Troy will soon see the benefits of
wireless traffic signal technology. "This new technology
will allow all six signalized intersections within the city
limit of Troy to communicate with each other," explained
MoDOT Traffic Engineer Kristy Yates.
With this new interconnected
system, the signals will be able to be fully synchronized,
allowing for better timing and less stops for those driving
on Route 47. "That's where people will see the real difference,"
she explained. "The system will keep Route 47 flowing
more freely through the city," she said.
However, because
Route 47 traffic will have to stop less, it does mean slightly
longer delays for those using the side streets at the intersections.
"You can only do so much to improve signal timing and
with the continued growth in the area, we will work with
the newly formed TDD to look at future improvements along
Route 47," she said.
Senator Jon Dolan said this is a good investment for Lincoln
County. "Constituents have contacted me regarding
the improvement of light timing along Hwy 47 and MoDOT has
responded. I appreciate MoDOT's continued focus and dedication
of resources to the needs our growing community," said
Dolan.
MoDOT Signal and
Lighting Specialist Warren Brehm will soon install the new
equipment on the streetlights or signal poles. The project
should be completed by mid-February depending on equipment
availability and weather. For more information
about this project, contact Yates at 636-528-3163

7, 2005 -Informational Meetings about Route
36 to be held
MoDOT will hold four informational
meetings this month to provide updates and answer questions
about making Route 36 a four-lane highway. The meetings
are from 4 - 6 p.m. and will be held in Monroe City City
Hall on Tuesday, January 18; South Shelby High School Gym,
Shelbina, on Thursday, January 20; Clarence Civic Center
on Monday, January 24; and at the Macon Vo-Tech School on
Thursday, January 27.
MoDOT representatives will be available to answer general
questions about the project as they relate to land surveying,
and geological and archeological work that needs to be performed
in the area, as well as the proposed location of the expansion.
A representative from the U.S. Highway 36 -- Interstate
72 Corridor Transportation Corporation will be available
at the meetings to answer questions about the upcoming ballot
issue with regard to forming a Transportation Development
District and implementing a sales tax to help pay for the
expansion.
A website is being developed about the Route 36 expansion,
and those interested in receiving regular email updates
about the project are encouraged to provide an email address.
If you are unable to attend the meeting and have questions
about the project, please feel free to call MoDOT during
normal business hours at 1-888-275-6636 (1-888 ASK MODOT)
or email teresa.smashey@modot.mo.gov
