9, 2005 - Roadway Work to Begin on Routes 24 and MM
in Marion County
HANNIBAL - This
spring, the Missouri Department of Transportation will
resurface Routes MM and Route 24 in Marion County near
Hannibal.
Route MM will be resurfaced from 0.2 mile
west of County Road 426 east to Route 61 in Hannibal.
The project will consist of placing a 1 ¾"
overlay on the existing roadway to seal and protect
the pavement and extend the pavement life.
Resurfacing
on Route 24 will be from 4.5 miles south of Palmyra
south 1.8 miles to just east of the Rocket Truck Stop.
The surface on the Bear Creek Bridge will be
removed and replaced with an overlay. The curb
on the bridge will also be modified and new guardrail
installed. While work is being done at the bridge,
traffic will be one-way and controlled with temporary
signals. Before resurfacing, the existing asphalt
will be removed from the driving lanes. The shoulders
will also be paved as a portion of this project.
During
resurfacing, both roads will be reduced to one lane
with flaggers controlling traffic through the work zone.
Delays should be expected, please allow ample
time to your destination. The roadway
will be opened to two lanes at the end of each workday.
The contractor, Bross Construction of Hannibal,
will begin the projects in March and expects to be completed
by June 2005.
