From 2001 through 2006, 139 people died and 7,642 were injured in work zones.  At the same time, we saw far too many contract, city, county and state employees killed or injured improving our roads.  That is why we place such a great emphasis on communicating the need to drive safely in work zones.

As part of these efforts, MoDOT launched Operation Orange in April 2007.  It was initiated during National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week and featured significant landmarks throughout Missouri being turned orange to draw attention to this important topic.

You are invited to take part in Operation Orange 2008.  National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week will be April 7-11 this year and we hope to make our efforts bigger, better and ORANGER than ever before!

Get involved with this vital educational initiative that will help save lives on Missouri’s roads.  For more information, call Sandy Hentges or Melissa Black at (573) 526-4141.  Also follow the links below to see an ongoing list of current participants, get a list of tips for turning things orange and see some of last year's efforts.
