Memorandums
of Agreement may also stipulate advertisement for adaptive
reuse in place, or adaptive reuse at a new location if the
bridge is movable. For instance, most bridges with metal
through or pony trusses are movable; most concrete bridges
are not.
Advertisements
are usually submitted to two widely read periodicals, and
a local newspaper and run for a period of about one month.
If some one inquires and wishes to submit a proposal, they
will be sent a packet of information on the historic bridge
and will be allowed about one month to submit a proposal.
All serious proposals
are reviewed by MoDOT, the Federal Highway Administration
and the state historical organization. All proposals must
contain certain basic information. We prefer that historic
bridges be reused in an acceptable manner reflecting their
original purpose, however, in the interest of preserving
historic bridges, the need for transportation usage is not
a firm requirement exclusive of other innovative adaptions.
Proposals must contain maps photographs or sketches of the
proposed bridge site, and specific information regarding
intended use and public access to a bridge.
Proposals should
contain information on financial resources available for
transportation, re-erection, and maintenance, and should
indicate an intention to place a bridge on the National
Register of Historic Places. We do not demand reconstruction
with severe conditions, but seek to assure a tasteful and
useful application of historic bridges in keeping with their
historic character and significance. |
