Disctrict 9 South Central Welcome to MoDOT Contact, Survey, Jobs, News, Site Map
Our mission is to provide a world-class transportation experience that delights our customers and promotes a prosperous Missouri.

Route 8

Designated by the Federal Highway Administration as a major route, Route 8 provides access to some of Missouri’s most beautiful natural attractions – Mark Twain National Forest, Onondaga Cave State Park, several streams and trails – as well as campgrounds and recreational facilities.

Traffic volumes on Route 8 vary from 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles per day. During the peak of the summer tourist season, these volumes can greatly increase. It has been projected, should current growth continue, volumes in 20 years would vary from 3,000 to 7,500 vehicles per day.

For many years, there has been call to improve Route 8. Efforts about to get underway have been actively pursued by one of MoDOT’s planning partners, the Meramec Regional Planning Commission in St. James, Mo.
