Route 67 Improvements

What’s the project? Work from two miles south of Route F in Wayne County to Route O in Butler County is separated into three phases:

The first phase of this project is for demolition and clearing work to prepare property purchased for the project. A contract has been awarded.

Phase two includes grading and paving to add two additional lanes from two miles south of Route F in Wayne County to Route O in Butler County. In addition, this project includes an additional four miles of paving in Butler County from where the four lane ends north of Poplar Bluff to Route O. Grading for that portion is currently under construction. A contract is anticipated to be awarded for this phase in fall 2007.

Phase three includes constructing three box culverts and two bridges. A contract is anticipated to be awarded for this phase in fall 2007.

Where does it stand now? The next eight miles have been completely surveyed and mapped for roadway design. MoDOT has completed the preliminary plan for the project. MoDOT will share the preliminary plans with the public, gathering comments and making adjustments to the plan as necessary.

What happens next?
Right-of-way purchasing began in fall 2006. MoDOT’s right-of-way team will complete all of the necessary appraisals for the purchase of the property. MoDOT will be purchasing right-of-way and access rights from all property owners along the route; therefore, a property owner may be located along the existing route on the opposite side of the new construction but will still be approached by our right of way department to purchase access rights to the roadway.

What’s the estimated cost?
Phase one construction--$1.1 million
Phase two construction, including all right-of-way costs for this section--$20.7 million
Phase three construction--$ 2.6 million
