What's the problem?
With an industrial park and port authority in the area, the City of Cape Girardeau and Cape and Scott Counties were interested in more directly connecting Route 25 and the interstate.
What's the solution?
Cape County will acquire right-of-way and pay for construction of a new county road. MoDOT will then take the route into the state system and maintain the road. In return, the County will take over maintenance of some outer roads. The intersection of Routes 25, 77 and AB will be reconstructed at Blomeyer, including the addition of traffic signals and turn lanes. County Road 220 will be closed at the railroad crossing.
What's happening now?
A public meeting was held in fall 2004. The project was delayed a year at the request of Cape Girardeau County. The additional time was requested so plans could be revised, allowing development of property near the Industrial Park.
What's the next step?
Construction is expected in 2010.
What's the estimated cost?
MoDOT's portion is $2.6 million.
The value of Cape County's portion is $2 million.
