New Interchange Near Fisk

New Interchange Near Fisk

New Route 60/51 Interchange and Route 51 Relocation

What's the problem?

Route 60 is a four-lane highway, intersected by Route 51. Both are well-traveled routes.

What's the solution?

A new interchange will be constructed to replace the existing Route 51/Route 60 intersection near Fisk. The new interchange will be located halfway between the St. Francis River and Mingo Ditch east of Fisk. A section of Route 51 will be relocated to correspond with the location of the new interchange. The project will include construction of an overpass at the present location of the Route DD intersection at Fisk and a paved outer road will parallel the north side of Route 60. The outer road will provide a continuous connection between the proposed overpass at Route DD and the existing interchange at Route T. Existing at-grade access to Route 60 at Route 51 will be closed upon completion of the proposed improvements. This project is part of a larger plan to upgrade Route 60 to freeway status between Poplar Bluff and Sikeston.

Where does it stand?

Because of the soil in the area, the next phase must wait for the embankment to settle.  The wait for more settlement won’t impact the completion date because the project was set up in phases to allow plenty of time for the earthwork to settle and the next portion, construction of the overpass and paving, isn’t scheduled until 2008.

What happens next?

The project is expected for completion in 2008.

What's the estimated cost?

$8 million.
