MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- Completion of two widening projects on Route 13 between Bolivar and Humansville will be celebrated with a public dedication event at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30.
Local, county and state officials and area citizens will join together in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at on the southwest corner of the intersection of Route 13 and Polk County Routes BB/B between the two communities.
At Bolivar, Route 13 was widened to four lanes and three interchanges were built -- at Route 83/Business 13, Polk County Route T and Route 32. Traffic signals on Route 13 were eliminated and new signals were installed at the ramps on the Route T and Route 32 interchanges. New street lighting and highway signs were installed. Outer roads were built to connect several local roads to the interchanges. The project cost is $22.7 million, with APAC-Missouri as the prime contractor.
While the new lanes and interchanges on Route 13 in Bolivar have been in use for many weeks, minor work is being done to complete the project.
The four-laning between Bolivar and Humansville was completed in late 2004 -- ahead of schedule. The project included two new southbound lanes and the rebuilding of several county road approaches. The prime contractor is Illinois Valley Paving at a cost of $18.2 million.
Two projects remain to be completed before Route 13 will be a four-lane highway between Route 7 at Clinton and Springfield. One project is under construction between Route 123 south of Humansville and St. Clair County Route UU south of Collins. A second project will relocate Route 13 to the west of Collins and build a new Route 54 interchange. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2008 under the direction of MoDOT's Joplin District Office.
