DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - Business entrances along northbound Glenstone Avenue north of Sunshine Street are scheduled to be rebuilt half at a time during the week of August 2, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The work will include building new curbs and pouring concrete to widen the pavement, with crews on the job close to but not in the way of traffic.
Drivers should slow down and be alert to vehicles turning slowly into the businesses.
All four right-turn lanes are closed so they can be rebuilt. Drivers will have to make right-turns at the intersection.
Crews also may install traffic signal wiring and posts in the islands at all four corners, with work taking place AWAY from traffic.
No night work is planned. However, periodically a through lane may be closed for a short time when crews work in the early morning hours before rush hour -- usually 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.
No through lanes will be closed during the day to avoid more backups than normal at the busy intersection.
MoDOT and the City of Springfield are working together on a series of intersection widening projects along Glenstone Avenue and Kansas Expressway. They include the Sunshine/Glenstone widening, where left-turn lanes are being added, right-turn lanes realigned and new traffic signals and street lighting installed.
