A project to replace the old North Cobb Creek bridge on Laclede County Route HH 2.4 miles east of Route 5 south of Lebanon with a new more modern span has begun, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The work this week will focus on setting work zone signs and clearing brush and grading dirt.
Much of the work to replace the bridge will take place off the roadway. The new span will be built just south of the existing bridge. Toward the end of the project, it will be necessary to tie in the approaches to the new bridge to the existing highway. During this work, drivers can expect one-lane traffic.
A contractor crew will replace the old narrow span built in 1957, with a wider bridge. The new bridge will be 34 feet, 8 inches wide with two 12-foot driving lanes and shoulders.
The project is scheduled for completion by August 31.
The contractor doing the work is Emery Sapp & Sons of Columbia at a low bid amount of $834,499.
