Phase 1
Construct Roundabout on West side of I-55
$2.8 million (funded by earmark)
Phase 2
Widen Interstate 55
$17 million (funded by the American Recovery Reinvestment Act)
*The information below is the last phase of the overall construction to improve the Interstate 55 at Route M interchange.

Why Does the Interstate 55 and Route M Interchange Need More Improvements?
The traffic volumes on Route M and Interstate 55 have increased; therefore additional ramps are needed to handle the traffic flow and maintain a safer interchange.
What Improvements Will MoDOT Accomplish?
· Remove the existing exit ramp from northbound Interstate 55 to Route M.
· Construct a new exit ramp from northbound Interstate 55 to Route M.
· Construct an entrance (loop) ramp from eastbound Route M to northbound I-55.

What are the benefits?
The additional ramps will complete the new interchange. These improvements will greatly enhance the interchange’s safety and efficiency of traffic flow.
How Will Traffic Be Impacted During Construction?
Construction is expected to begin in April 2012 and will be complete by mid-2013. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures on Interstate 55 and Route M. Access to and from the interstate will remain open throughout most of the project.
However, there will be some restrictions accessing I-55 to and from Route M while the two ramps are being connected. MoDOT will keep motorists informed throughout the project when these restrictions occur.
Estimated Project Cost:
This project was awarded to Gershenson Construction Co. Inc., for approximately $4.8 million, which is funded by Amendment 3.
