Clarkson Soundwalls

What Is Happening Now?

In August 2007, MoDOT solicited bids for the Clarkson soundwall project. The bids were too high, and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission rejected the bids, looked at methods to reduce costs on the project and sent the project back out for bids in December 2007.  The bids were again too high, and the MHTC rejected those bids, as well.

At this point, unless another option to reduce costs can be found, MoDOT does not intend to go out for bids again.

Project History

A Federal judge ruled in favor of MoDOT in 2006. The city of Clarkson Valley has filed an appeal to the judges ruling.  The appeal is still pending.  MoDOT does plan to construct the sound walls and will open bids in May 2007.  Construction could start in late summer.

In 2006, MoDot resurfaced much of Clarkson Rd. using “quiet pavement.”  Quiet pavement includes scrap rubber from old tires in the top layer of concrete asphalt.  The rubber/concrete mix provides a smooth, quiet ride, while still maintaining a durable roadway surface. The quiet pavement runs the entire stretch of Clarkson Rd. between Rte. 100 and west of I-64. MoDOT will periodically take sound readings to evaluate the effectiveness of the pavement.

MoDOT held an open house public meeting on June 1, 2005 to show the public the latest design plans for soundwalls that will be constructed on Clarkson Road between Kehr’s Mill and Clayton Road.
