Route K Bridge Improvement Project

Rte. K ribbon cutting ceremony

What Is Happening Now?

NEW - The Rte. K bridge is open to traffic. Only minor work remains. The $1.9 million project was awarded to Krupp Construction, Inc.

Past Information about The Project:

In September 2004 the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved the design plan as proposed. However due to the community's input, the roadway and bridge alignment has been shifted slightly to the south. This will allow the old bridge to stay open while the new bridge is being constructed. There will only be short-term bridge closures while construction is under way. These short-term closures will be coordinated in order to not impact major festivals in the Kimmswick area.

What Was The Problem With The Old Route K Bridge East Of Route 61/67?

The old Route K bridge over Rock Creek was built in approximately 1932 and desperately needed to be replaced. This bridge had narrow 10-foot lanes and no shoulders. This bridge ranked among the top bridges in Missouri that need to be replaced and was restricted to one lane because of its deteriorated condition.

What Is The Proposed Solution?

MoDOT replaced the Route K bridge over Rock Creek. The new bridge has two 12-foot lanes and two 8-foot outside shoulders. MoDOT also raised the grade near the bridge to minimize flooding in the future. The roadway and bridge was shifted slightly to the south, which allowed the old bridge to stay open while the new bridge was being constructed.

Project Timeline:

October/November 2006
Construction will be complete.
